DESCRIPTION:
French, Lerolle Freres, a'Paris, (blinker) dore bonze clock in the rococo fantasy style with a brace of hippocampi with webbed feet emerging from the waves, on left a young Amphitrite with fish tails and to her right a cherub with 2 fish fins in lieu of feet, playing a conch, and at the top a small cherub with two sticks in his hands for percussion accompaniment. Just below the dial a bust of Neptune [or Poseidon in Greek], with animated eyes that move back and forth with each tick. C.1850.
CONDITION:
the porcelain numeral 4 is now replaced with a plastic one, hand lettered, and will need better attention. There is some minor wear to the gilding on the rear surfaces, especially the hippocampi [from lifting the heavy clock]. The quality movement with Brocot trademark (AB flanking a star), with count wheel striking on a bell. Makers name appears on a porcelain cartouche at the top of the dial. Overall very good original condition with fine detail on all mounts. Note left eye has a red jewel, right eye jewel absent. Ht 19"
